You will soon receive a brochure inviting you to join the VSSNA. Please consider doing this. The VSSNA represents all of us in many ways, including representation in the following areas: Vt Medical Society School Health Committee School Nurse Advisory Committee New England School Nurse Conference Committee NASN Liaison VT NEA Liaison VSNA Liaison NCSN Liaison. We offer a fall and spring conference. We recognize one nurse as 'school nurse of the year' each fall. We recognize a non-nurse supporter of SN's with the Stackpole Award each year. We put out a newsletter. Then of course there is the DOE, Board of Nursing and other agencies who contact our Board throughout the year for various reasons. Our strength lies in your support. If anyone is interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities within the VSSNA, contact me for more information.

VSSNA Report

3/15/08

The district 3 nurses met on 1/16/08 at CVMC with the Barre Lions Club. Following brief housekeeping duties of the district, the seven nurses in attendance had the opportunity to hear about the Lions Club initiatives. Glenn Myer from the Stowe area informed us that in addition to glasses, members also collect hats, sunglasses, reading glasses, and suitcases. A Stowe eye doctor was also present for the discussion. The Barre Lions Club currently serves over 100 individuals per year while raising over $17,000 per year to assist the community with visual and hearing devices. The Barre/Lamoille County Lions Club will be traveling to Cuba in November of 2008 for a vision/hearing/speech campaign. A vison assistance form was provided for school nurses to have for future referrals.

The district will meet again on 3/13/08 at CVMC for a presentation regarding the topic of teen pregnancy. The April meeting will be hosted by Robin Wright from Hyde Park. Possibilities for topics include Asthma and Sleep disorders. The May dinner meeting will be held at the Capital Plaza with the date to be determined.

Linda King of Harwood Union High School has been nominated from district 3 for School Nurse of the Year. Linda has received all necessary paperwork and will forward to Lola for the Spring meeting in March.
