New Resource from Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation
School nurses have been described as
the nation’s “hidden system” of health care for children, handling a
wide range of health issues on a daily basis. But school systems are
often hard-pressed to fund them. A new brief from the Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation’s Charting Nursing Future series describes the
critical role school nurses play in providing health care to the
nation’s youth, the challenges that local schools face in securing
funding to support them, and some suggested local, state, and
federal policy solutions. “Unlocking the Potential of School
Nursing: Keeping Children Healthy, In School, and Ready to Learn,”

Free Packets from NSBA
The
National School Boards Association's (NSBA)
School Health Programs has a collection of "101" Packets with
valuable information on specific school health issues such as
asthma, healthy eating, and tobacco use prevention as well as on
coordinated school health programs, ways to build community support
for school health, and school health issues in communities of
color. The Packets have recently been updated and include
background information and guidance for policy and program

Scholarships
Available!VSSNA
Education Scholarship
The
Vermont State School Nurses’ Association is pleased to award an
annual scholarship in the amount of $500 to a currently employed
Vermont school nurse who is also an active member of the VSSNA. The
applicant must express interest in expanding his/her professional
knowledge and skills in the area of school health services and/or
health education.
This scholarship is a one time non-repayable award to be used at an
accredited college of the applicant’s choice. The winner of the
scholarship will be selected by the VSSNA Continuing Education
Chairperson and at least two other members of that committee and is
subject to the approval of the executive committee. The winner will
be announced prior to the VSSNA Annual Spring meeting.

Scholarship
All new
members who join prior to April 1st each year are eligible to be
